A place of faith
Parish History
St. Oliver Plunkett's Parish was founded on the First Sunday of Advent, 1983, drawing its initial community from the parishes of St. Mary's Irishtown, SS Peter and Paul's, and Powerstown. The first Masses were celebrated at St. Oliver's Primary School on Heywood Road, and the community soon gathered at the converted Sports Complex in Elm Park, which became the Parish Centre.
Our church building was constructed in the mid-1990s and solemnly blessed on December 1, 1996 — the Feast Day of our patron, St. Oliver Plunkett. In the years since, our parish has grown to encompass more than 1,000 homes, becoming a young, vibrant, and deeply welcoming community open to all people, regardless of their background or origin.
In 2013 we celebrated our 30th Anniversary with a joyful gathering of music, song, and thanksgiving. The parish looks forward to many more decades of serving Clonmel and the surrounding area in faith and community.
